We have multiple buildings with cement floors we could use for roller skating either all year or opposite hockey season. Fun for all ages

Sweep Fish Lake and restock it with fish. With the rising costs of everything, it would be great to have a reliable local fishing lake.

Would love to support a large Farmers Market that rotated between Daysland, Killam, Heisler and Sedgewick each week. Close down part of Main Street and showcase all our very talented bakers, farmers, crafters, artists and talent. Have a small area for musicians, some food vendors, etc. The small fee for the vendor booth fees can be divided at the end of summer and a portion to each town to a charity of their choice.

An annual Fall Festival hosted by a community annually. It could include a market for local makers, bakers & creators of all kinds. Local restaurants could have fall-themed foods & beverages. If you hit them all you could be entered for some kind of community gift card or gift basket. The local businesses could put out scarecrows and/or have windows painted festively. Different groups could each put out a booth with fair-like games & activities.

Let’s have an outdoor weekend festival. Could be various entertainment for kids and adults. Concerts, magicians, food vendors, something really unique.

A weekend set up specifically for special needs children. A movie night, activities, food vendors, etc., that is geared towards kids who might not do well during other activities going on. For example, Killam parade weekend is great but over stimulating for autistic kids. The Discover Aviation program is great, but a day specifically for kiddos that might need extra time and space so they can feel comfortable.

A week-long children’s day camp where kids can learn about the different people who keep our county running (public works, Agricultural services, mechanics, etc).

As we move forward, should or could we be looking at more County-wide events? Eg. in the U.S. they have state fairs, etc.

I think at the Diplomat Mine campground (near Forestburg) there should be a playground. Not only would that entice people to come camp but even more families might come to fish. Not every family member likes to fish. It gives everyone something to do.

A place people could go and sign out supplies needed (like a library) but it had playpens, high chairs, baby swings, toys for different age groups, etc. So a grandparent could sign out equipment if grand babies were visiting. Could also include different power or garden tools, medical equipment like crutches, kitchen gadgets etc., depending on community needs.

Modern day businesses have shifted to a lot of “work-from-home” options lately, whether self-employed or a corporate nomad. Having free or low cost co-work spaces offers a communal place for people to come and bring their personal work (laptop/papers/etc.) to a work-like setting and get things done in the company of others. For entrepreneurs, productivity is especially increased when you are in a work-like environment or when there are others near you also working on their own thing.

Even having the space open for a few hours per day would provide a nice change for people who work from home, or for “corporate nomads”.

This space would do well with several work stations, flat surfaces, WIFI, coffee/water availability. These spaces likely exist already in the various un-used community halls/legions around each town.

Start planning and saving for a regional recreation facility. Build something that is modern and can compete with what is being built in the cities. Towns should chip in as well.

Female representation across County Council, and Towns/Villages in the Flagstaff Region, is very low (More than 80% of all elected officials in the Flagstaff Region are male).

A program targeted at encouraging leadership and democratic participation among women and girls – specifically tailored to women and girls in rural/remote areas.

A digital Flagstaff Adventure Guide to highlight what each town has to offer. From hiking trails, to shopping, restaurants, camping, recreation, golfing, library, 4H clubs, other programs. This can then provide where to get further information on details.

I think it would be a positive thing to get more businesses in town on main street, filling up those empty buildings. And get everyone to be open on Saturdays. Get the tourists who drive through on Hwy 13 and Hwy 36 to stop in Killam and shop (spend money).

Annual bike clinic for kids in spring in collaboration with the RCMP. Each year hosted by a different community in Flagstaff.

Would you ever consider having a community registration night (or 2) in the fall and/or spring? We are new to the community (moving to Killam in Dec. 2022) and are still having a VERY HARD time finding information on recreation programing in Flagstaff County. We have tried google searches, Facebook, paper archives and still can not locate the information. For example – Jr. Curling in Sedgewick – there is a phone number only with no other info. I have tried emailing some of the provided emails for clubs and don’t get replies. My husband and I would interested in helping organize if required. Thank you for your consideration.

Food trucks gather to display their delicious offerings in a common ground where people can mingle and listen to some music (live band or DJ) while supporting local food truck companies.

Iron Creek Flying Club has considered the idea of having a fly in similar to the “Camrose Fly-In Breakfast” but with a food truck challenge folded into the mix.

This would allow the locals to view aircraft from throughout Alberta and Saskatchewan as well to showcase the airport to the county residents as it has an extremely positive reputation in the aviation community.

With food trucks gaining popularity, what better way to feed everyone than to incorporate a food truck competition. Those who manage to have the most popular dish win bragging rights as well as a possible prize and some media coverage from our local press.

A free indoor walking track in Killam, Sedgewick, Strome, Forestburg, or Daysland would be an amazing asset to the county for the cold winter months!
