Programs & Information
The Agricultural Services Department focuses on pest management, weed control, roadside vegetation and more. The Ag Department works in cooperation with provincial and private agricultural and environmental organizations to deliver programs beneficial to our residents.

Water Loading Stations
Flagstaff County operates seven water loading stations for agricultural and fire use only, as the water is non-potable and contains elevated arsenic levels.

Shelterbelt Establishment Program
Flagstaff County helps rural landowners establish and maintain healthy shelterbelts, which conserve soil, protect crops, provide wildlife habitat, and enhance the landscape.

Roadside Vegetation Management
Flagstaff County manages roadside brush and vegetation to improve road safety and infrastructure longevity, using spot herbicide treatments and twice-yearly mowing.

Roadside Haying
Flagstaff County landowners can apply for a permit to hay municipal right-of-ways, with applications accepted until June 15 and haying required to be completed by July 31.

Rental of Equipment
Flagstaff County residents can rent a variety of agricultural equipment, including tree planters, sprayers, and mulch applicators, at cost-recovery rates.

Agricultural Recycling
Flagstaff County residents can recycle a variety of agricultural plastics, including seed and pesticide bags, totes, containers, and twine, at several local and regional facilities.

Pest Control Products
Flagstaff County offers a variety of cost-recovery options to help residents manage Richardson’s ground squirrels, including poison-free RoCon, traps for purchase or rent, and Weevil-Cide tablets for certified applicators.

Fusarium Graminearum
Fusarium Head Blight, caused by Fusarium graminearum, is a destructive fungal disease affecting wheat and barley, capable of reducing yield, quality, and creating livestock feed issues

Feed, Seed, Soil, & Water Testing Analysis
Flagstaff County’s Ag Services Department can send feed, seed, and soil samples for analysis at a cost-recovery charge, using Down to Earth Labs in Lethbridge.
